Long Gone’s Light

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let
it shine.*” It’s fervent flame, an answered cry.
A constant brightness that none can forget.
Eyes left blind that my gift could say goodbye.
I stand amazed by ever-flaring rays –
So soft upon my reaching hands. Afraid
To leave, I have begun to count our days.
Already haunted by scenes that pervade.
O friendly warmth I’ve come to need like air,
Will your new light shine across oceans far?
Unknown regret eclipses light you share.
How present moments further gouge the scar!
This answered prayer that God gave, never mine.
A light too bright for one will ever shine
